May 2022

Springtime. Such an uplifting time of the year as baby birds appear in hedgerows, delicate blossom adorns trees, and splashes of vibrant blues, pinks and yellows appear in the garden.
It’s a time for sowing seed.
And a time to keep on top of the fast-growing weeds!

For some of us it may be a prompt to reflect on our own season of life:
Is there anything we need to start sowing?
What weeds do we need to clear and stop taking hold?
Are we living with intention to nuture a future harvest?
Are we in a season of enforced rest, of activity or harvest?
Or like young birds that outgrow the nest, is it time to move on?

Know peace in the season you’re in and accept it for what it is, doing what it suggests you might do. And if it’s time to move on, take what you’ve learned but don’t look back.

April 2022

Jesus wept.
Not the customary loud wailing for the dead but deeply moved to silent tears with grief for his friends.
So at one with us.

We suffer in this life.
Allow yourself space to process, pray and lament.

We also walk with those who suffer.
Weeping with them.
Praying for them.
Caring for them practically in any way we can.
And being a voice of hope.

March 2022

Without listening we can’t receive.
Without receiving we have nothing meaningful to give.
If you follow a tradition of giving up something for Lent (starting March 2nd) perhaps something to lay aside might be the ‘noise’ of the world. You’ll know what shape or form that takes for you.
And instead, still the inner hurriedness that might help you (& me) ‘listen’ more attentively, and in turn, respond more meaningfully.

February 2022

February:
For some the month of love confirmed,
for some the month of unrequited love,
for some – business as usual!
Whether or not we celebrate Valentine’s Day, let’s take time if we can to pause and consider these words or phrases,
one – by – one.
Do they reflect how we love others?
How can we respond?

January 2022

There’s a lot to be said about reflecting on a word for the year to encourage & focus intentions. I sensed what mine would be mid-December.

But how much more so when God inspires His own word from scripture to our hearts by His Spirit. And how reassuring when these words resonate with each other!

When you discern His personal word from scripture to you, be assured it will be fulfilled – in His way & time.

It’s my hope but also a challenge, to intentionally ‘glorify’ God & not just sing about it.

What might that look like for you this month?

God is ‘mindful’ of you as He was of Mary (v48).

Knowing & accepting that He sees & knows you inspires a tender response

‘Delight yourselves in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires
of your heart.’
Psalm 37:4
As we delight ourselves in God, He conceives His desires in our hearts which of course He will in time give birth to.
But I wonder how often we find ourselves delighting in God only when we get an answer we want….

October 2021

Jesus said that ‘your Father knows what you need before you ask him. This, then, is how you should pray….’ (Matthew 6:8).
Sit with His words and be open to how He wants to root their truth in your heart.
I won’t go so far as to suggest you only pray His prayer throughout October, but perhaps you might like to pray it slowly – with thought and sincerity – at least  once each day through the month….?

September 2021

So, Word for the Week has morphed to Word for the Month! I won’t bore you with the ‘why’, but how might Paul’s words inspire your response?
What common ground do you already have with family, friends, colleagues and neighbours, over which you can build a bridge to take the Good News?
What common ground could you nurture?
You’ve such an incredible gift to share!
